Our purpose is to tell you about the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the
promised Son of God. When He came people wanted to know more about
Him. John the Baptist asked a question that is good for everyone
to ask. 'Art thou he that should come or do we look for another?' John sent two of his disciples to go to Jesus and get an answer:
This is recorded in the New Testament in the Gospel according to
St. Matthew 11.1-6. Jesus did not only answer the question, He gave
an actual report of what He is doing. Jesus said: 'Go and show John
again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their
sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear,
dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them'
(Matthew 11.4, 5).
Jesus gave the answer about Himself. The Prophet Isaiah had foretold about Him
in the Book of Isaiah: 'The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the LORD
had anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind
up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of
the prison to them that are bound' (Isaiah 61.1-3).
Jesus' answer also included a warning: 'And
blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me' (Matthew
11.6). There is a decision
to be made, a very personal
decision. When you face the truth, it must be realized that Jesus is the
Truth. Will you accept Him or does He offend you? This is the
question Jesus asks of
you.
All of us have sinned, and Jesus the Son of God, is the only One
who can deliver us from sin and its consequences. Prophet Isaiah
declared: 'He was
wounded for
our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement
of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep
have
gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath
laid on him the iniquity of us all' (Isaiah 53.5). Jesus is the
One we have looked
for.
This is the day of Good News. It is available today. Tomorrow might
be too late. We have not been promised tomorrow. Life is always
lived in the
NOW.
Therefore,
the Holy Bible states: 'To-day if ye will hear his voice, harden
not your hearts, as in provocation' (Hebrews 3.15). In this is a
solemn warning.
You have looked
and now Jesus shows himself to you. As you contemplate and try to answer
Jesus' question, consider what the Prophet Malachi wrote: 'They
that feared the Lord
spake often one to another: and the LORD harkened, and heard it, and
a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared
the LORD,
and
that thought
upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that
day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth
his own
son that
serveth him. Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous
and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth
him not'
(Malachi 3.16-18).
Today is your day of salvation. Choose life in God through Jesus
Christ and all His promises will be yours.
